What is the purpose of Vita?

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is an IRS and community-sponsored program designed to assist low to moderate income taxpayers with the preparation of their annual tax returns at no cost.

In-person and virtual appointments are available for Montgomery County households earning $60,000 or less. Those without a bank account who want direct deposit can obtain information on how to open a bank account at the New York State Banking Department’s website. Ngo Ngwe told the audience how she made her appointment with VITA, and they provided her with a volunteer who could translate the information in her native French. Ngo Ngwe said when she saw how much money she would be getting back, she was a bit concerned. Certified tax preparers are available to file your taxes for free. The annual Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, a partnership of the City of Gaithersburg & the Montgomery County Community Action Agency, is now accepting appointments to prepare 2022 taxes. Casey Community Center will host https://turbo-tax.org/ a VITA site on Mondays from 3 to 8 p.m. Opening and closing dates vary by site as well as hours and days of operation. In-person appointments are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 11 a.m. At the Community Action Agency office, located at 1401 Rockville Pike, Suite 320 in Rockville.

Many workers eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Child Tax Credit (CTC) don’t feel comfortable filling out tax forms themselves. However, commercial tax preparers charge significant fees to prepare a return and offer services that can otherwise be provided at no cost at a VITA site. People eligible for EITC and CTC have a no-cost option — they can have their returns prepared and filed at a VITA site. Montgomery County Community Action Agency’s(CAA) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)  program is currently looking for volunteers for the upcoming tax season. CAA VITA has been assisting Montgomery County Residents for the past 25+ years.

VITA- Free Tax Preparation Services

The VITA program offers free tax preparation assistance to low- & moderate-income individuals who earn $60,000 or less per year. Preparation is done by IRS-trained volunteers who assist taxpayers in determining if they are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit & other tax credits. VITA is a free, IRS-sponsored program to help low and middle-income workers have their federal and State personal income taxes prepared and filed electronically at no cost. VITA also ensures that workers receive all the tax credits to which they are entitled. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) created the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Free Tax Prep Program to provide free tax preparation for low- to moderate-income taxpayers using community partners and volunteers. This service is sponsored by the United Way of Greater Nashville.

This free service is offered on location to taxpayers with incomes up to $56,000. However, other restrictions may also apply as certain types of income “out of scope” for VITA services. Soriano Luna said many of the clients she deals with may be able to cover day-to-day expenses, but a single car repair or missed paycheck can be devastating. So being able to find clients all of the money they may be entitled to, like the Earned Income Tax Credit, is rewarding. And the cooperation with Montgomery County also provides clients with links to other county services they may need. CADCOM is a lead agency of the Montgomery County Asset Building Coalition (MCABC) which has VITA site throughout Montgomery County, including Norristown, Willow Grove, Pottstown, Lansdale, Chestnut Hil and more.

VITA volunteers learn to prepare taxes from IRS professionals and use those skills to make a difference in the National Capital Area. This is a valuable service that helps many filers understand their taxes and file them correctly to receive the highest return.

What is the Vita TCE program?

The IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs offer free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals.

CAA VITA will be following a Hybrid model, we will be completing in-person sessions and VIRTUAL sessions. We provide all the materials and training to ALL volunteers, we only required a 3/4-hour https://turbo-tax.org/montgomery-county-volunteer-income-tax-assistance/ commitment a week during tax season. We are flexible with the hours and volunteers can choose any of the various locations. Starting in 2022, our program is authorized for MCPS SSL hours.

Volunteering begins in late-January and continues through mid-April.
